Privacy Policy
Later · KBWorks
Later ("the app", "we", "us") is a private journal app. This policy explains, in plain language, what the app does and does not do with your information. The short version: Later has no account, no server, and no analytics — your letters exist only on your device, encrypted.
Summary
- No account required — there is nothing to sign up for.
- No server — Later does not talk to the internet. There is no backend that could be breached, sold, or subpoenaed.
- No analytics, no ads, no trackers.
- No AI reads your letters. Nothing you write is sent anywhere for processing.
- Your letters are encrypted on-device, including while sealed, so not even someone with access to your files can read them early.
Information the app handles
Your letters. Every letter you write — its text, the date it was written, the date it seals to (if any), and any feeling tag you attach — is stored only on your device, encrypted at rest. Later has no server to send this data to, so it never leaves your device unless you export it yourself.
App settings. Preferences like your PIN, theme, and reminder settings are also stored locally on your device only.
Diagnostics. Later does not include analytics, crash-reporting, or advertising SDKs of any kind.
Permissions we ask for
Later requests exactly two device permissions, both optional:
- Notifications — used only to let you know, on-device, when a sealed letter has opened. No content is included in the notification unless you choose to preview it.
- Biometric unlock (Face ID / fingerprint) or PIN — used only to lock the app itself so no one else who picks up your phone can open it. Your biometric data is handled entirely by your device's operating system; Later never sees or stores it.
Later requests no other permissions — no camera, microphone, contacts, or location access.
Children's privacy
Later is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 — in fact, we do not collect personal information from anyone, of any age.
Your rights
Most privacy policies describe how to access, correct, or delete data held about you. Later holds nothing: there is no account, no server-side copy, and no personal data in our possession to access, correct, or delete. Practically, this means:
- You can read, edit, or delete any letter directly in the app (subject to the seal you set — see the Terms of Service).
- You can export your letters manually at any time from Settings, for your own backup.
- Uninstalling the app removes everything Later has ever stored about you.
Data security
Your letters are encrypted on-device, both while unsealed and while sealed. Because there is no server, the main risk to your data is losing or resetting your device without having exported a backup — see the Terms of Service for what that means in practice.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves — for example, if an optional cloud backup feature is ever introduced, it will be off by default and this policy will be updated before it ships. The "Effective date" above always reflects the latest version.
